As a mom of a 13 month old, I consider myself very highly qualified to give advice on the perfect gifts for any 12 month old in your family. B is very opinionated on what works for her and what doesn’t 😉 This age is super fun and I feel like everyday we wake up and B has learned something new. She’s starting to really understand what we are saying to her and developing different reactions. I love it!
So here it is…the dream wish list for any one year old girl (or boy) on the planet 😉

Potty Chair– Okay maybe this is more on my dream wish list, but we have started to take B into the bathroom with us and let her sit on her potty so that she knows what it is used for. Hopefully this will make potty training a little bit easier. Speaking of potty training, if you are at this point check out this amazing book on how to potty train your kids in just 3 days! That’s only one weekend! The author has 4 kids and has used this method successfully all 4 times.
Bath Toys– Bath time is always a fun experience in our household and I chalk up my daughters compliance entirely to bath toys. We have hundreds and hundreds it feels like so maybe just get these few instead.
Baby Phone– If mommy and daddy have a phone, chances are baby wants a phone too. We try to keep B off of our phones and giving her a “phone” has really helped. She loves playing with it and feeling like she is included too.
Board Books– Yes, yes, a million times yes. It would be crazy to let any 12 month old around a paper book unless you’re planning on shredding it, but it is really important to introduce reading at a young age. Board books are the answer! We have quite a few of them and B will bring me them throughout the day to read to her. She really enjoys the touch and feel board books too.
Balls– We have a dog so tennis balls aren’t an uncommon thing to see around our house, but if you don’t have any you might think about getting some to start teaching throwing and kicking. Learning motor skills is very important at this age.
Cozy Car– I remember having one of these when I was a kid and fighting over it with my brother. Well the popularity has not declined over the years. These cars are still a fun time for kids. They have a removable bottom so that you can begin with pushing your children around with their feet up and as they get older you can remove the bottom and let them move the car themselves! B and her best friend also love to play on these cars.
Smart Stages Chair– This chair is so much fun and has different levels of learning based on your child’s level. It teaches colors and shapes along with cute little songs that we love to dance to together.
Baby Doll and Stroller – Like a lot of little girls, my daughter carries around her baby dolls everywhere. She especially loves to make everyone in the house give them kisses. Kids this age are beginning to walk so pushing around a stroller to help them balance is great!
Here are some other great gifts to help with standing and walking:
Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker
Baby Einstein Discovering Music Activity Table
Evenflo Exersaucer Triple Fun Active Learning Center, Life in the Amazon– We have this and although it is on the pricier side it is a great investment. It has three stages: playmat, exersaucer, and activity table to grow with your child through the first couple years! In the end it is cheaper to buy this rather than 3 separate play sets.
