The number one place that gets dirty before anything else does in my home is the kitchen. It feels like as soon as breakfast is done and cleaned up, it is time for lunch proving it to be extremely difficult to keep the kitchen clean each day.
Over the last four years of being a stay at home/work at home mom, I’ve learned a few tips and tricks along the way that help me keep my kitchen clean. If my kitchen isn’t clean my entire house may as well be dirty because I don’t feel like my home is clean until my kitchen is.
Tips for Keeping Your Kitchen Clean
Keep Counters Decluttered
Your home will immediately feel less dirty if there is less clutter. I try not to keep any appliances on the counters either (except for the coffee maker it gets used too often) so that there is nothing to make the space look messy.
If your home is anything like mine the kitchen counter is a catch-all. The mail all to often gets thrown here until it is a growing stack of clutter. I finally put a basket on the kitchen counter (a hanging one would be better) to keep all of this mess contained.
After every single meal wash the counters. Doing this will also ensure that you are keeping the counters decluttered. You can’t clean the countertops if there is stuff on top of them.
If you keep the counters clean after every meal, it will be easier than if you let food or whatever build up there all day to clean at night.
Clean the Stove
Speaking of keeping the food from drying on the countertops, you also want to wipe up the stove each time you cook. There is nothing worse than letting the food dry and creating a bigger job for yourself at the end of the day.
Wiping wet food up is a lot easier than wiping dried food up.
Cover the Food
Cover ALL food with a napkin before putting it in the microwave. This is just another task that will keep you from having to do a big job later.
Even if you think it isn’t going to splatter, cover it.
Wash the Dishes
This is my biggest tip for keeping your kitchen clean and decluttered…wash all of the dishes after every meal.
When I don’t do this, they pile up really quickly and create a HUGE job for me. Keeping up with them is the only way to keep my kitchen clean all of the time.
All of these tasks are super small and seem insignificant, but when combined they only take a few minutes and can make your life a whole lot easier.
When I get behind on doing these things every day I get bogged down in the clutter and the mess.
